VALUE FOR MONEY
With the attention to detail, and major items such as twin batteries and solar provision, the New Age represents outstanding value in this class.
TOWABILITY
All up, this New Age van comes in with a tare weight of 2480kg and a standard load capacity of 400kg. That means a medium-to-large tow vehicle is required, but it also means the caravan is quite well-behaved on the road, even on some of the bends around Eildon.
SETTING UP AND HITCHING UP
The Oz Classic has the classic centre jockey wheel, but only a small window of space to install a WDH, which could cause some problems.
SUITABILITY FOR INTENDED TOURING
The Oz Classic certainly feels solid enough for some rough road touring and free-camping is a distinct possibility with all the features on offer.
LAYOUT
The New Age has the currently on-trend front bedroom/rear bathroom layout, but the bedroom is slightly longer than normal. On the downside, the kitchen bench space isn’t overly generous.
QUALITY OF FINISH
A look in the cupboards, under the bed and around the outside revealed a good finish to the van. New Age tried to be a little different, and the internal décor, cabinetry, and general fit and finish are a welcome change.
BUILD QUALITY
The van appears to have a very solid construction.
CREATURE COMFORTS
The New Age has all the comforts of other vans, but it’s the attention to detail and other little features that make this van stand out, such as a reversing camera, AES fridge, touch-panel CD/DVD player, tall shower, and extra bedroom cabinets.
INNOVATION
The Oz Classic doesn’t have anything exceptionally innovative – although the attention to detail is, sadly, not always seen in other vans. The more spacious bedroom was a welcome change from the norm, as was the interior styling.
X-FACTOR
The raffia-weave flooring and two-tone cabinets help the Oz Classic make a great first impression.
THE CARAVAN WORLD VERDICT
In many ways this Oz Classic special is a typical mainstream caravan but it has a number of New Age touches that make it look a bit different. The main difference is the bedroom layout which is certainly more spacious than normal. But that does come at a price in a van of this length and that price is a slightly smaller kitchen and dinette area. Don't let that detract from everything else because this is certainly a well-appointed van, with quite a number of items fitted.
