UPDATE: After this review was filmed, Aussie Wide Caravans has been sold to Kingdom Caravans. An Aussie Wide spokesperson said the Waratah model would continue to be built by the new owners.
Aussie Wide Caravans is one of Australia’s smaller caravan manufacturers. In business for around eight years, the company’s motto is to “Build them slow, build them right.” As such, Aussie Wide Caravans builds around two caravans a week – far fewer than the mass produced models from many other caravan builders.
The 20ft Waratah caravan is squarely aimed at caravanners who are into long-distance touring around Australia. A tandem-axle caravan, interesting standouts on this model include a quickfill mains pressure water system which fills tank very quickly (and includes a stoneguard); raised ribbing in the aluminium cladding, which is much more resistant to hail; a noticeable amount of storage; and a whoppingly tall 1.9m-tall door.
The Waratah is the smallest and cheapest of AussieWide’s three-model range, although it’s hardly devoid of features. Inside it has a full ensuite, loads of cupboards, top-loader washing machine, big double-glazed windows, large Queen-sized bed, angeled kitchen with lots of benchtop space – it’s got the lot.
