Horizon Motorhomes celebrates 20 years and 500 sales

Caravan World — 24 July 2015

For owner Clayton Kearney and his staff at Horizon Motorhomes and Ballina Campervan & Motorhome Centre (BCMC), the sole dealer of Horizon, the sale of their 500th motorhome was a particularly proud moment.

Horizon Motorhomes specialises in built-in motorhomes and all vehicles are designed and hand-built at the Ballina factory, using Mercedes Benz Sprinter and Fiat Ducato base vehicles. All aspects of the design, build, sales and after-sales service are taken care of by the team.

Donald and Lorraine Kirkaldy of Toormina, Coffs Harbour, purchased a Horizon Motorhomes Casuarina and collected it from Ballina with their family last week. When they arrived, they were delighted not only to see their shiny new motorhome, but also to be announced as the lucky owners of the 500th Horizon motorhome. With this came a congratulatory bottle of Chandon and a certificate.

Donald and Lorraine’s new Casuarina has a white gold exterior and an interior to match, with a few additional red hues in the seating, cushions and wall panels, and a reversing camera for safe parking.

The couple were previous caravan owners but after running into several issues with their van they called into the BCMC showroom to get some assistance and this is where they spotted their first motorhome – a burnt orange Horizon – and decided a motorhome would be their next choice.

“We chose Horizon Motorhomes due to quality, reliability, the in-built design and safety features and we also loved the freedom to move the whole vehicle with ease, backing it and parking anywhere, and also the compactness of it,” Donald said.

Donald and Lorraine are set to head off in their new motorhome later this year, heading to north Queensland for the remaining winter months, then on to the Great Ocean Road over summer.

Horizon Motorhomes' story began in the early nineties, when Clayton turned his love of motors and travelling into a career, with a quest to design the perfect motorhome. At 21, Clayton was working as a mechanic and had bought a second hand car yard with his stepfather.

"One day we had a campervan on the yard and it sold straight away. So we started sourcing more campervans and developed our own look and before we knew it we had a brand and called it Horizon Motorhomes,” Clayton said.

“We are extremely excited and grateful to be in our 20th year, as well as selling our 500th motorhome. Back then, we never would have thought this business would have grown to this amazing feat and are looking forward to the next 20,” he said.
