NEWS: GULGONG FOLK FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

Caravan World — 4 November 2009

The popular Gulgong Folk Festival, now in its 25th year, takes place from December 31, 2009 to January 3, 2010 in the historic gold mining town of Gulgong, 3.5 hours’ drive north-west of Sydney.

The headline act is UK folk music legend Johnny Handle, who founded the Folksong and Ballad Club in Newcastle in 1958. Other international and national performers include the Home Rule Band, Stringybark Band, Alan Musgrove and the Ecopella Choir. There will also be daily song, dance and percussion workshops, poetry and folk interpretation.

Artists will perform across 10 venues including the Gulgong Opera House, which is the oldest operating opera house in the southern hemisphere.

Heritage-listed Gulgong is the perfect example of a 19th century town. Attractions include the Henry Lawson Centre, Gulgong Pioneers Museum and the Cudgegong Gallery.

Tickets are $20 per day or $50 for the full four days. For more information, visit www.gulgongfolkfestival.com, or call (02) 6373 4600.
