Heaps of water during the day is fine, but, at the end of the day, how great is it to sit back and relax with an ice-cold beverage?

The quantities of ingredients in the following drinks will serve one unless otherwise stated. So if you are relaxing with your significant other or are having a few friends over for drinks, you will need to do a little multiplication.

All of the drinks in the following recipes are non-alcoholic but feel free to add a splash of something appropriate to the drink if you like.

Ensure all of the ingredients are nicely chilled.

Cosmo Mocktail

The Cosmo makes a delightful and refreshing drink to have at the end of a summer’s day (or any time, really).

Preparation time: 5 minutes

The following quantities will make one non-alcoholic Cosmo Mocktail

  • 60ml cranberry juice
  • 30ml lime juice
  • 150ml (3/5 cup) soda water
  • A small splash of orange juice (optional)

In a jug or large glass, mix the cranberry juice and lime juice together with a spoon.

Add the orange juice at this stage, if you are going to include it. Pour in the soda water and mix quickly (to keep as many bubbles as possible).

Serve the Cosmo Mocktail with or without ice in a chilled glass.

Iced Tea Punch

Nothing could be simpler to make than this punch and it is such a thirst-quenching tipple. This punch is great if you have a bit of an upset tummy, as well, as the ginger in the punch is especially kind to your belly. I like to serve this punch as a long drink over plenty of ice.

Preparation time: 10 minutes (allowing for the tea to cool a little)

Cooking time: 1-2 minutes

The following quantities will serve one.

  • 250ml brewed tea (cooled)
  • Sugar to taste
  • 250ml ice-cold ginger ale
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger (optional)
  • A couple of mint leaves (optional)
  • Lots of ice

In a jug or very large glass, combine the cooled brewed tea and sugar to suit your taste. If you are using grated ginger and mint leaves, add them at this stage. Now add the ginger ale to the tea mixture and stir gently. Fill a long glass with ice and pour the tea and ginger ale mixture carefully over the ice. Your punch is now ready to enjoy.

Not-So-Bloody Mary

A tomato juice-based tipple to relax and refresh at the end of the day. Yes, you can add a splash of vodka to this drink, if you so desire.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

The following quantities will serve one.

  • 120ml tomato juice
  • 20ml lemon juice
  • Dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Good pinch of celery salt
  • Grinding of black pepper
  • Dash of Tabasco sauce
  • Celery stalks (for garnish)

In a jug or large glass, combine the tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce. Stir well to combine.

Serve the Not-So-Bloody Mary with or without ice in a tumbler, perhaps with a celery stick stirrer.

OJ Punch

This is another simple punch recipe using only three ingredients – four if you count ice. This is another drink to be served in a long glass.

Preparation time: 1 minute

The following quantities will serve one.

  • 200ml orange juice
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 200ml ginger ale
  • Ice

Combine all of the ingredients together in a long glass and enjoy.
